Nurse Elvie’s GK Love Story

MY GAWAD KALUSUGAN STORY

By: Ms. Elvira S. Lavador, R.N.

I started serving as a Sagip Facilitator in one of the Villages of Gawad Kalinga in GK Towerville since 2005.  Then, I met Dr. Eric Cayabyab last June 2007. He enlightened and encouraged us (Singles For Christ) for the involvement of the Gawad Kalusugan Program. Actually, I’m waiting for the result of the Nurse Licensure Examination and when I’m hired and started for full-time last August 2007. One week later, God given me blessing to pass the NLE and He waited me to say yes in serving God’s Kingdom (GK-GKal).

At first, I experienced stressful moments when my parents wanted me to give up GK work and look for a job where I can serve as a Professional Nurse in the Hospital. But I became obedient to God and prayed that my family would support me with my calling in the community.

Gawad Kalusugan advocates Primary Health Care in the Community. It helps individuals address health concerns and had a close interaction of the implementation of the Program. It is my pleasure sharing my time, talents and treasure with our brothers and sisters (beneficiaries) and co-servants. Through planning, workshops and inspirational stories, it guides us to plan, study and evaluate solutions to the community problems.

I felt honoured to be part of the GK-GKal Team. I’m really proud of the Team doing the noble job. But the obstacles I have encountered are the confusion of our job description or what are the limitations in doing the work? And I had difficulties in communication with the GKal Team to when will I attend the meetings or activities.

After one year and three months of work, I’m blessed God granted my prayers that my family are very supportive with the work. I believe it is God’s will that brought me to serve Gawad Kalinga community. And it is still my motivation and conviction on how God guided me to experience greatness of being a servant to our brethren.       With unity and cooperation, our work will succeed through God’s wisdom and love. God bless us all.

This is a very inspiring story — being obedient to God’s call. And it always works! It may not be on the material and financial aspects, but the fulfillment is something else — heavenly high!

    All for God’s glory!
